Oswald was born in 1913. He passed away in 1943. He was a German mathematician who made contributions to complex analysis. He introduced quasiconformal mappings and differential geometric methods into the study of Riemann surfaces. Teichmüller spaces are named after him.
Teichmuller joined the Wehrmacht in 1939 and was employed in Berlin in the decryption service. After the fall of Stalingrad, he volunteered for the Eastern Front where he was killed in 1943.
