In 1860, Preston Terry, aged 1, was living in Brookhaven, NY, post office Holtsville, in the home of his parents, Scudder H. Terry, aged 37, and Rhoda I. Terry, aged 36, and sister, Josephine Terry, aged 12. His father was shown to be a farmer. Living next door were his grandparents, Scudder Terry, aged 62, a farmer, and Catherine Terry, aged 60, and aunt, Sarah R. Terry, aged 20. Living on the other side, was Hiram E. Terry, aged 30, a farmer, his wife, Francis M. Terry, aged 29, and their children, Franklin J. Terry, aged 6, Charles W. Terry, aged 5, and John A. Terry, aged 1.

In 1880, Preston Terry, aged 21, was living in Port Jefferson, NY with his wife, Rhoda Terry, aged 20. Preston was shown to be a sailor.

On December 26, 1880, Preston E. Terry was elected trustee of the Methodist Church in Port Jefferson along with J.M. Overton and J.B. Overton for a term of three years.
