Biography

Martha Elizabeth Carson was born in was born ca 1849 in Tennessee.[1] She was the daughter of Isaac Carson and Martha Presley. At age 1, in 1850, she was in her parent's, Isaac and Martha's home in Monroe County, Tennessee, along with her brother John-4.[1]

She married a M S Thomas. At age 21, she and MS were living in District 4, Campbell County, Tennessee, where he was a coal minner.[2] They had 2 children

  2. Mabra C Thomas (1873-)

She married William M Roddy (1852-1910) on October 23, 1874 in Anderson County, Tennesse.[3] They had 6 children.

  1. Charles William Roddy (1876-1935)[4]
  2. John Christopher Roddy (1878-1960)
  3. Luther Young Roddy (1880-1960)[5]
  4. Ida Bell Roddy (1881-1976)
  5. Anna Mae Roddy (1891-1965)
  6. Fred Dewey Roddy (1893-1948)

She and William were lived in Coal Creek, Anderson County, Tennessee in 1880, where he was a Coal Miner and she was taking care of the home and Children, Allice-8, Mabra C-7, William C-4, John C-2 and baby Luther-8 months old.[6]

William passed away just before 1910.

She was widowed in 1910, living in Morgan County, Tennessee on Poplar Creed Coal Co. street, where she was keeping a Boarding house.[7] Her son Frederick-15 in the home as well as her grandson Hugh-15, and She was keeping 3 boarders. She reported that she had 9 children with 5 living in 1910.

She died after 1910, in Tennessee.
