Sarah Thompson was probably born in Maine though I haven't found documentation for that fact and have no hint as to who her parents were. She first married David Mitchell and had 3 children. It's probable that David died at some point in 1829 because Sarah and Louis were married January 1830. [1].
The 1850 census has Louis (Lewis) and Sally living in Bradley, Maine with their four surviving children and David Mitchell (age 21). Lovina (Lavinia) Mitchell and her husband Jonathan Worthing are also living in their home. In 1860 they were still living in Bradley, Maine but after Louis died in 1868 she seemed to move around quite a bit, living in the homes of a friend and her daughters. She filed for a "Mothers Pension" based on her son, Stephen's, military service and death at age 27. She maintained that he was in constant pain "through his chest and sides" and that he gradually worsened and died in 1862 "of the disease which he contracted in the army". (The pension amounted to $8.00 per month). Sarah died in Iowa and is buried in West Linn Cemetery in Dallas County, Iowa where her son,(T.J.), lived.
