Sources
↑ The JHBL and Find a Grave sources give his birth place as Hanover County, but Hanover was not formed from New Kent until 1721.
↑ This list of children is compiled from the Find a Grave biography of unknown source, another unsourced list at his Geni profile, and from the JHBL Family Genealogy. It should be treated as the starting point for research. JHBL lists two Anns, Ann Claiborne, b. 1754, and Ann Fox (no date), both of whom are assumed to have died young. Find a Grave lists only Ann/e Claiborne, and Geni only Ann Fox.
↑ Boddie, 1954, p. 40. Note that the Find a Grave biography gives 1747 as the date Joseph became sheriff. In fact, the Albemarle Sheriff's Office was created in 1745, with Joseph as the first sheriff.
