Skeffington was born at Rathnally House, his ancestral home, on July 11, 1806, near Trim, County Meath, the thirteenth child of Anna and Skeffington Thompson.[1]
In 1829, he graduated from Trinity college in Dublin, Ireland.[2]
In 1838, he was appointed by his wife's grand-uncle, John D'Arcy, to the Rectory of the church at Lynn. This set off a legal dispute between John D'Arcy and Nathaniel Alexander, Bishop of Meath.[4] He also held curacies of Dunboyne and Drumcondra, Of Tully, county Antrim.[5]
He was recorded in Griffith's Valuation of 1846 with a "very handsome" situation in Broomfield Townland, County Dublin,[6] and of 1862 as an occupier of a tenemant farm in the parish of Killead in County Antrim, with 120 acres valued at £105.[7]
He died 13 February 1892 and was buried in the Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin.[8][9][10]
