Rebecca Maria was born in 1859^[1] at Portsea, Portsmouth^[2], Hampshire, England, and baptised on the 3rd July 1859 at St. Alphege, Canterbury, Kent, England, the daughter of Henry Thurstin^[3] (mariner) and Mary Ann Thurstin of St. Peter's Lane^[2].

On the 24th December 1880, Rebecca Maria Thurstin married John Sole at Christ Church, Ramsgate, Kent. John Sole, 25, bachelor, Trinity Service (mariner) of Sailor's Home, Ramsgate, son of James Sole (farm labourer); and Rebecca Maria Thurstin, 22, spinster of 2 York Terrace, Ramsgate, daughter of Henry Thurstin (? man). Witnessed by John Hoy and Selina Harriett Wakeham^[3][4][5].
