Douglas was born in 1905. He was the son of Henry Tiffen and Isabella Campbell.[1]
Douglas Neil Tiffen served in the NZ Army during World War 2( Service number 6734) . A sheep farmer in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as Mrs. H.E. Tiffen, of Otane (mother) He was a Private with Headquarters, 22nd (Wellington) Battalion of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Second Echelon [2]
He was captured in Crete Greece on 14 July 1941 and held as a Prisoner of War [3]
PRISONER IN GERMANY SOLDIER PRESUMED KILLED Advice has been received in Gisborne that Private Douglas Neil Tiffen, of Hawke’s Bay, who was previously reported missing and subsequently was presumed by a court ot inquiry to have been killed in action, is now a prisoner of war in Germany. Private Tiffen’s wife, who is in England, is understood to have received advice to that effect and has communicated it to relatives in this district.[4]
He married Mathena Ann Vipond in England
He passed away in 1990.[5]
