Biography

Samuel was born on 2 Aug 1802 in Chichester, Merrimack, New Hampshire, United States. He was the son of Joshua and Olive (Brown) Towle.

Samuel married Sibbel Whitten. They had four children who survived to adulthood.

Samuel passed away on 22 Jan 1884 in Loudon, Merrimack, New Hampshire.[1] He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Loudon.[2] After the passing of his widow, Samuel willed the entirety of his real and personal estate to his son, James. With the exception of five dollars that was to be set aside for his only other surviving child, George Towle.

Census Records

1850 Loudon, Merrimack, New Hampshire Samuel was identified as a farmer in this census. He owned a sizeable tract of land in Louden that he would ultimately leave in its entirety to his son, James. Samuel's household composition at this time consisted of himself (age 46); his wife, Sibbel (Whitten) Towle (age 37; and their children, Joseph (age 16), George (age 13), James (age 11) and Sophia (age 4). [4]
1860 Loudon, Merrimack, New Hampshire Samuel was a farmer. The value of his real estate was set at $1000, and the value of his personal estate was set at $480. The census taker appears to have had some issues entering information on this page, but it appears as though all of Samuel's children still lived at home.[5]
1880 Loudon, Merrimack, New Hampshire Samuel was still engaged in farming his land. His son, James, lived at home and also worked on the farm. Although the transcriptionist has labeled this enumeration for Hopkinton, the document heading shows that it is actually in Louden.[6]
