Charles, leaving his family in England, emigrated first to Nova Scotia where he worked in a tin mine. Eventually his family joined him and their third child was born in Nova Scotia.
They moved to Vermont where Charles worked at the Ely Copper Mine and the rest of their children were born in Vermont. Charles died in 1877.
