Biography

John E. Trivett (Tribet) was the son of Soloman Tribet & Elizabeth Hartley resident of Ashe County, North Carolina later a part of Watauga County by 1849. John was bn 1833, the 1850 US Census age 17, brother Elisha age 15 & 4 sisters. Soloman Trivet age 47, died age 47 May, 1850 on the Morality List, Watauga County, NC 1850 US Census. Elizabeth Tribet age 45 is a widow.

The 1860 US Census has Elizabeth Cable age 52(55) married to John Cable age 49, bn TN, they have one daughter Sarah age 9, Chany Tribett age 22 and Elizabeth Tribett age 21. They live in the Beaver Dam District (Twp) Watauga, County, North Carolina. Marriage records at Boone Courthouse may exist, they weren't required in 1850, this couple lived another 20 years, so we have family Bibles, Church records and family cemeteries with well groomed gravestones and lawns of Watauga Co. NC.

The 1860 US Census has John age 27, bn NC and farmer; Mary W. (Presnell) age 22 & wife; Rachel age 9, Elizabeth A. age 8, Sarah D. age 4, Edy C. age 2, Mary N. age 1 and George W. baby. Abner L. Trivett was born in 1861. The question we must ask, are the eldest two daughters the step-daughters of Mary Presnell. The strongest evidence is the 1927 death notice of Elizabeth Angeline Dyer's death when her son Cicero Dyer states her father is John Trivett (looks like Turner) and her mother is Diana Hatly (Hartley), who married her cousin Drury Calvin Dyer.

Rachel L. (Trivett) married William Henry Glenn who I believe was a widow by 1880 & Rachel may have died from child birth, I am still looking for their deaths, over 50 family trees usually assume that Mary Presnell is the mother & not a Hartley, another source would be helpful. The marriage records of these couples would help.

I believe that the strongest candidate would be a daughter of Benjamin Hartley and Elizabeth Church who were married close to 60 years & this union produced 16 children, Elizabeth did 1903 age 101, the couple had 9 daughters including the birth of twins who died in 1843 as infants. Six daughters are known to have married & we know their husbands. Nancy born 1836 is said to have married a Marcus Crench, not a very common surname, except in a Dicken's novel, the only Marcus I see is Marcus or Marian Church, who married to a Mary, both are age 28 and 27 by 1860.

The only Nancy Hartley I found was in Davidson County, NC, relatives of the Watauga ones. I believe that Nancy born 1836 and eighth child of Benjamin and Elizabeth Hartley was the first wife of John Tribet (Trivett) and most likely a cousin 1 or 2 removed and neighbors who parents lived next to each other. Most of these families were Baptists, early 1850 would make John 18 and Nancy 16 cousins, many Beaver Dam residents married cousins, however couples usually married past age 20 for males and 18 for females not at age 13 or 14.

Rachel was born Dec. 1851 and Elizabeth Angeline 1852, Sarah the next child Sarah bn 1856, would make Mary Presnel age16. This would put John and Mary Presnel married in 1855 and Nancy could have died in child birth or by 1854. The two young sisters would have been infants and have time to bond with their young stepmother. I found Mary Triscott living in 1870 and I am still looking for one of children death certificate for the name Mary Presnell?

John E. Trivett or Tribet volunteered for Company "E" Watauga the 37 North Carolina Infantry Regiment on Nov. 20, 1861at Camp Mangum, Raleigh , NC for just one year which later for three years, the company suffered much from disease and always short of supplies. John was wounded with a thumb blown off and gangrene killed him. John died in Lynchburg City Virginia and buried in Old City Cemetery 1863 age 30, leaving a widow with 7 children and 5 ages 7 to 5.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
