John Trotter was born on December 31, 1831 in Sevier County, Tennessee. His parents were John Trotter and Talitha Mattox. He married Tryphena Flinn on December 23, 1850 Together they had 11 children:
John was a Private in Company M, 2nd Tennessee Calvary from November 8, 1862 to July 6, 1865.[1][2]
He died on June 19, 1889 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
