Cammie Met Troutt was born on October 7, 1921 at the family farm in Rural Sumner County, Tennessee. Her parents were Rassie and Jennie Beulah Perry Troutt. She was the youngest daughter born to the couple. She was raised on a family farm where all of the children were expected to work. Cammie indicated in conversation that the children were treated as "slaves" and that work took precedence over education.
She married first to J. R. Akins of Westmoreland, Tennessee. They stated their vows on November 1, 1940. Cammie and her new husband resided with his parents.
The Akins' family traveled north between 1940 and 1943. It was common for families to move in groups to Michigan and Indiana at the time due to an abundance of jobs being available. Cammie gave birth to her eldest child, Jerry Akins in Elwood, Madison, Indiana on July 31, 1942.
Her husband completed his WWII draft registration in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 6, 1943. Cammie and her husband's parents returned to Westmoreland, Tennessee along with Jerry. On July 22, 1943, Cammie gave birth the Phyllis Janette. Phyllis later died on January 4, 1944 due to complications of the flu.
JR returned from the War in January 1946 and the couple was blessed with another daughter M. Kay Akins on December 5, 1946. The couple remained in Tennessee for a time, moving back to Indianapolis, Indiana during the year 1947.
Cammie was a vibrant, loving, friendly, happy, crafty woman. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening and canning, cooking meals, and running her home. She remained busy doing her day to day activities.
In December of 1964, Cammie separated from JR according to her daughter. Their divorce was not final until after April 1965. There is not document available giving the final dissolution date.
Cammie married second, Charles Henry Franck, II, on October 7, 1969 in Honolulu, Honolulu, Hawaii. She was well cared for by Mr. Franck and loved immensely. Through this marriage, the Franck children became a part of her as if she bore them herself. One of them spoke at her memorial saying that she was the mother he remembered and that she entered his life at a critical time.
Family was the center of Cammie's life. She cared for her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike. She loved to teach all of them how to live well. She taught gardening and canning, cooking skills, sewing, quilting, and craft-making. Each family member gained a skill wrapped in a lot of love--from generation to generation.
Cammie was widowed when Mr. Franck passed away in February 1994. She grew through loss and helped her family learn the lessons she could teach from that loss. And she did not mourn forever. She lived in her own home until the age of 85 when her health demanded more supervision. She resided in an Extended Care Facility until her death at the age of 94.
Cammie's close family members, especially her mother, were tied to the Christian Faith. On November 21, 1999, Cammie was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Sarasota, Florida.
She passed away on September 17, 2017 from complications of pneumonia. Her last 6 days of life were spent having survived horrific landfall of Hurricane Irma over the entire state of Florida.
Her family gathered for a memorial on June 25, 2018. It was a celebration of life. She is survived by her daughters, M. Kay Blair and Trisha Chance Franck; son, Charles Franck, III; granddaughters Janet Akins Uhegbu, Lera Blair Wade (Andy Wade), and Kathryn Franck; grandsons Jay M Akins, Sr, (Lourdes Akins), Ryan Blair (April), and Nathan Franck (wife); and 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Cammie's ashes were interred at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana. Sea Shells with some sand were placed inside to box that was buried.
