Biography

Carter Troxel was a Kentuckian.

Carter Troxel was buried in Summit Cemetery, Summit, Benton County, Oregon.

Carter was a son of John and Sarah (Brown) Troxel. He had nine siblings, Phoebe, Anna, Frederick, Elizabeth, Mary, William, Daniel, Mellissa, and Joshua. He married Rebecca Ann Kirkendall, 14 Nov 1847, Appanoose County, Iowa. Ten children were born to this marriage, Bradley, Evan Lewis, Joshua, Nicholas, Sarah, James A., Lydia Ann, John Jefferson, Carter Arnold and Mary Ellen. He was buried at the Summit Cemetery in Benton Co., Oregon.

Carter TROXEL 1822-1892 - Carter TROXEL and his brother Fred came to Summit soon after 1860. Their claim to remembrance by old timers was that they were skilled carpenters and furniture makers. Fred TROXEL gave most attention to furniture, which he made by use of a foot power lathe and hand tools from maple and ash timber which he cut and seasoned himself. Many chairs made by him are still in use in the homes of this and neighboring communities and are still "as good as new." [The source for this information is a 1938 WPA interview with Arthur Scaggs.
