Alfred was born on 8 Dec 1874 in Ronceverte, West Virginia.[1] By 1900 he had left home and was living in Atlanta Georgia working as an insurance salesman and renting a room from his future wife's family.[2] He married Geneva Henderson on 25 Sep 1901 in Atlanta. They had four children; Virginia Louise, Alfred Jr., Sarah Elizabeth and Marion Archer. The family continued living in Georgia moving from Atlanta, to Savannah, then to Gainesville. Like most men of his generation he registered for the draft during WW I, but he did not serve in the military.[3] Alfred continued his career in insurance. After Geneva died in June of 1930, he married a second time to a widow,Mrs. Johnie Hamilton. [4] . He and Miss Johnnie had no children together. Alfred died on 18 Feb 1945[5] and was buried in Alta Vista Cemetery , Gainesville, Plot: Block 4N, Lot 47, Grave E5.[6]
