Research Notes

James appears in the 1880 census as being one year old, but his birth date in the 1900 census says Sep 1880. The 1880 census was enumerated on 8 Jun 1880, so I have put his birth date at Sep 1879, but it could be Sep 1878 as he would have been over a year old, but not yet two, in June of 1880.

This James cannot be the Jim Tryon noted as father on the death certificate of Elizabeth Colbert, who died in 1944. Her mother was Littie Ann Leonard and she was born about the same year as this James. See Elizabeth Colbert's death certificate image
