Biography

Julia was born in 1819, daughter of Aaron Tryon and Rebecca Kneeland. She married James Treat in 1935. She died in 1862.

Research Notes

There is another couple, James Treat and Julia Ann (Drinkwater) Treat, who are often conflated with this Julia and James. A lot still needs to be worked out.

In the 1850 census of Brooklyn, NY, there is Julia A. Treat, b. 1819, with 5 yr old son James (b. Maine), who lives with Sarah Wilson, b. 1827. Sarah is the wife of Charles M. Wilson, b. 1821, of Ireland with children Julia 2, and Frederick C. Wilson 4. Julia is from CT, while other Wilsons are from NY. These same Julia, Sarah, and Sarah's children are also found in 1860 in Monmouth, NJ, and living with them is Rebecca Tryon b. 1793 in CT. This seems to be Julia living with her sister and mother. Rebecca and Sarah continue to be found together in Monmouth through 1870. Rebecca died in 1873 and shares a headstone with Sarah's son Edwin.

James died at sea in 1844 before their last child, James Madison Treat, Jr., was born on 10 Feb 1845 [1].

Her death record gives the wrong last names for her parents; Trent instead of Tryon.

Children: Clearly there is son James born about 1845, based on the 1850 census. We also find a 1878 marriage record for Hiram Treat, born about 1836, listing parents James M. Treat and Julia Tryon [2]. Three other children have been attributed to this couple: Julia Abbey Treat, b 22 Oct 1839, Sarah Eliza, b 20 Mar 1841, and Rosalia Hopkins Treat, b 5 Apr 1843 [3].
