Biography

Mary was born in 1882. Mary Tucker ... ^[1] After Mary and Charles married, in December of 1903 they lived in the Detroit area until 1914 (one year after their son, Cecil, died in a traffic accident) when they moved to Luther, Mich., and then to Bad Axe by 1915. In Bad Axe they lived at various rental houses including 112 E. Woodworth next to the 1st Presbyterian Church (both the house and church have been torn down and rebuilt), and in the early 1940's they bought a house at 306 S. Port Crescent St., which was the only house they ever owned Mary moved to Detroit after Charles died and she lived at 665 Willis Ave. (near Wayne State Univ.) in the 1950's when she worked as a seamstress for Crowley's Dept. Store (Crowley, Milner & Co.), in downtown Detroit. She later lived at a housing project (Kiefer Gardens) on the east side of Southfield Fwy. and north of Tireman. Both Charles and Mary were buried in Section F of Colfax Cemetery at Bad Axe.
