William Tuckwell was born on 26 May 1795 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^[1], the son of Richard Tuckwell and Elizabeth Budden.

He married Elizabeth Thorn on 11 June 1816 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia^[2].

In October 1818 he was Clerk, Female Factory, Parramatta. On 1 June 1820 he sent a Memorial to the Col Sec. William married Elizabeth Thorn at St John's CE, Parramatta - V1816 1935 3A and V1816 753 147B Their children were: Elizabeth R 1817; Richard 1819; William H 1821; Mary A 1824, John J 1826, Harriott 1828, Sarah J 1829, George 1832. In 1822 William was a Clerk and assistant to Francis Oakes at the Factory. On 29 July 1822 he was appointed Superintendent after the resignation of Francis Oakes.
