Sarah was born about 1814, the daughter of Stephen Tufts and Lucy Frost. She was certainly born in Massachusetts, but the exact location has not yet been determined. Her death record says she was born in Arlington, but son Lucius's birth record says she was born in Cambridge. Then again, daughter Alice's birth record says Malden. She may have been the Sarah A. Tufts born in Cambridge, Mass., 3 August 1812 [1] but further research is needed.
She married Lorenzo B. Newhall in 1833 (intention filed 20 July, they married 6 Oct). [2] They resided in his hometown of Malden, where he was a teamster and merchant, and where they had a large family of nine children.
After her husband's death in 1870, Sarah moved in with her daughter Sarah and son-in-law George Phillips and their family.
She died in 1894 of heart disease[3] and was buried at the Salem Street Cemetery in Malden with her husband.
