Samuel Charles Tustin was born on 7 Mar 1791 in Pennsylvania, PA. Son of William Tustin and.
He moved to Leesburg, Loudoun, Virginia, and in 1812, he married Mary Frances Flanagan. In 1825 he moved back to Pennsylvania and then on to Marshall County, Illinois in 1837 where he lived for about 10-12 years.
In 1845, Samuel migrated west upon the Oregon Trail with his wife and nine children to Oregon, and then two years later he traveled south to northern California in the search for gold in 1847.
Samuel built and ran a Lumberyard in Petaluma from 18 Dec 1855 which was sold in 1870 by his son Columbus after Samuel, his father, died in 1863.
On 19 Apr 1858, the Petaluma charter election took place and Samuel Tustin was elected as one of the city's original Trustees along with four other men.
