Biography

Albrecht von Ballenstedt, margrave of Brandenburg was the son of Otto "der Reiche", count of Ballenstedt and his wife Eilika of Saxony (Billung). He was born around 1096/1100[3].
He married Sophie von Winzenburg, daughter of Hermann I, count of Windberg, and his second wife Hedwig. They had 13 children:
  1. Otto, margrave of Brandenburg
  2. Hedwig, married Otto von Wettin, margrave of Meissen
  3. Hermann, count of Orlamünde
  4. a daughter who married Vladislav of Bohemia
  5. Siegfried, bishop of Brandenburg, archbishop of Bremen
  6. a daughter (Gertrud?) who married Dypold, duke of Moravia
  7. Heinrich, canon of Sankt Sebastian in Magdeburg
  8. daughter (Meregard?), abbess of Quedlinburg
  9. Albrecht, count of Ballenstedt
  10. Adelheid, a nun at Lamspringe
  11. Dietrich, married Mechtild of Thuringia
  12. Bernhard, duke of Saxony
  13. Eilika[3].
Albrecht was largely responsable for the unification of Germany under the Christian banner. Albrecht preferred negotiation rather than conversion by sword, converting the Wendish slavs through discussion.

Research notes

No source for birth date (Cawley says 1096/1100, Wikipedia has ca. 1100), no source for birth location. German Wikipedia has "Stendal?"[4], no location mentioned elsewhere.

Only wife mentioned is Sophie.

Suggest replacing birth date by abt. 1100, removing birth location, removing death location, and disconnecting Lotharien-1 as wife.

Lotharien-1 is apparently a duplicate of his mother, rather than his wife... Can you check?

Thank you.
