Marie Under was born in Estonia.

Marie Under was one of the greatest Estonian poets. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature on twelve separate occasions.

Marie Under was born on 15 March 1883 in Reval, Estonia, Russian Empire.^[1] She was baptised on 18 April 1883, daughter of Priido Under and Leena Kerner.^[1]

Note that her gravestone and Swedish death record list her birth as 27 March 1883; however her baptism, church list and marriage records are consistent with 15 March.^[2][3]

In the 1910-1915 Estonian Lutheran church list for Tallinn, Marie Under is listed as born 15 March 1883, with parents Prido Nicolas Under and Lenna Kerner, and with siblings Evangeline, Gottfried, Bertha and Christfried.^[4]

Marie Under, age 18 (born 13 March 1888), daughter of Pride Under, married Carl Eduard Friedrich Hacker on 10 Feb 1902 in Reval St Johannis, Tallinn, Estonia.^[5]

They had daughters Dagmar Hakker (1902) and Hedda Hakker (1905), likely while living in Moscow Hedda died in 1988, and was buried with her aunt Berta Under in Estonia.^[6]

She divorced Carl Hacker in 1924 and married Arthur Adson.^[2]

Marie Under-Adson died on 25 Sept 1980. She was buried at Forest Cemetery, Enskede, Stockholms, Sweden.^[2][3]
