Biography

The 1850 United States Census shows Mary Ann Poe living with her parents in the Upper Regiment of Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. The 1860 United States Census shows her still living with her parents, in Pittsboro, Chatham County.

She married her first cousin Robert H Poe in about 1874. The 1900 United States Census shows them living together with seven of their children in Gulf Township, Chatham County, North Carolina, United States:

Orra L (f) - b Aug 1875;

Beverly (m) - b May 1878;

Christian A (f) - b Mar 1881;

Mont (m) - b Mar 1883;

Mary H (f) - b Oct 1891;

Joseph Poe (m) - b Dec 1894; and

Robert W Poe (m) - b Mar 1899.

One other child was born and died before 21 Jun 1900.

She died in Gulf Township on 20 Sep 1927, as a result of asthma and valvular heart disease. She and her husband Robert are both buried in the Antioch Christian Church Cemetery, Bear Creek, Chatham County, North Carolina, United States.
