Oda is definitely identified as the wife or one of the wives of Hermann 'Billung', Duke of Saxony and is probably the mother of some or all of his children.[1]
As the name Oda is often found in the Luitpoldinger dynasty it is possible she belongs to that family, though the exact name of her father as proposed by Donald C. Jackman is at best a guess and not supported by any primary sources.[1]
Her date of birth is unknown, but as her daughter Mathilde, married for the first time shortly before 961,[2] a birth date for Oda of about 925 is a very broad estimate.
The date of her marriage to Hermann 'Billung', Duke of Saxony is also unknown, and whether she is the mother of the following four children, though as his only confirmed wife, she is likely to be.[1]
Both the necrology of St. Xanten and the necrology of St. Michael's at Lüneburg give 15 March as the date Oda, wife of Hermann, died, though without naming a year.[1]
If Hildesuith was the second wife of Herman,[1] then Oda must have died before he did on 27-8 March 973.
