Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Hannah (Unknown) Strawther is a part of US Black heritage.

Hannah was born in September of 1829 in either North Carolina (according to her 1910 census record) or in Virginia (according to her daughter's census records). Her parents are unknown.

She married Joseph Strawther. [marriage source needed]

Her husband's obituary stated he was an early settler of Douglas County, Kansas. Hannah might possibly have also been an early settler, depending on the date of their marriage.

Joseph and Hannah were enumerated with a few young family members (unknown relation--grandchildren?) in the 1895 Kansas census.[1]

Joseph and Hannah were enumerated in the 1905 Kansas census.[2]

In the 1910 census, Hanna (age 80), was the wife of Joseph Strawther in Eudora, Douglas, Kansas, United States. Their widowed daughter, Mary, and her two sons, were also living in the household.[3]

Hannah died on 13 March 1911 and was laid to rest in the Eudora City Cemetery in Eudora, Douglas County, Kansas.[4]

Her husband, Joseph, died in 1917 and was laid to rest beside her.

Her Find-a-Grave memorial has a photo of their shared gravestone.
