Ann was born about 1853 in Mississippi.
In the 1880 census Ann (age 27), Housework, was recorded as single in Precinct 2, Kerr, Texas, United States. She was living with and listed as a servant for the Dr. Charles de Ganahl family. Dr. Ganahl and his wife were early settlers in Kerr County, Texas, moving there in 1858 from Florida along with 21 slaves. They established Kerr County's first post office in what was known as Zanzenberg. It is possible and perhaps likely that Ann had been a former slave of the Gananhl's, although that cannot be be proven conclusively at this time.[1][2]
