Biography

William Utterback was born about 1776 in Old Germantown, Fauquier Co., Virginia [1] to John Utterback and Anna Catherine Zuln. [2] He administered the estate of his younger brother, Benjamin, in 1816 [3] and was made executor of his father's will in 1826. [1]

William obtained a bond on 29 Jun 1799 in Fauquier Co., Virginia, for marriage to Mary "Polly" O'Bannon; [4] [5] they were then married on 4 Jul 1799. [1]

William and Mary Polly had the following children: [1]

William died after 1840, where he appears in the Census in Fauquier Co., Virginia. [20]

Research Notes

Note: This William Utterback (#56 in The Utterback Book) [1] is not to be confused with the William Utterback (~1778 - 28 Oct 1843) who is the son of Johann Henrich (Henry) and Anna Utterback. The latter William was #41 in The Utterback Book, [21] but, as B.C. Holtzclaw pointed out in his 1964 "Ancestry and Descendants of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia", The Utterback Book placed William with the wrong parents. [3] Both books, however, agree that the William of this profile married Mary "Polly" O'Bannon and that the other William married Margaret Fencer. They also agree on the children listed for this William.

Neither the Utterback Book nor Holtzclaw's book indicate the maiden name of this William's mother, but several sources list it as Zuln. [22]
