Biography

John Vandegrift was born in in 1845 in West Virginia.[1] He was the son of Thomas Vandegrift and Devora (Powncell) Vandegrift .[2]

He served as a Private in the infantry, 6 Regiment Company C from West Virginia, on August 4, 1864.[3]

He Married Elizabeth Miller in September 19, 1867. They had 3 children 2 still living in 1900.[4]

  2. William Abraham Vandergrift (1873-1950)

In 1900, He and Elizabeth made their home in Newbery Twp., Miami County, Ohio, where he was farming. Their daughter Lydia C Vandergrift-29, was also in the home.[4]

HIs wife Elizabeth passed away in 1906, in newberry Twp, Miami County, Ohio.

In 1910, widowed, at age 65 he was living in Adams, Drake County, Ohio, on his farm. His daughter Liddie Vandegrift-39 was living with him.[5]

He died at the age of 75, on August 13, 1920 in Bradeford, Darke County, Ohio and was buried on August 15, 1920 in the Harris Creek Cemetery[2] in Bradford, Miami County, Ohio.[1]
