John Thomas Vose was born on 17 Jan 1885 in St Helens. He was the son of George Vose and Mary (Bold) Vose. He was christened February 11th 1885 in Parr.
By April 5th 1891, George and Mary were living in Peasley Cross Lane in Sutton. George was working as a general labourer, and they had three children - John Thomas (6), Mary Elizabeth (3) and baby George. There were also three lodgers, not known to be relatives.
By March 31st 1901, they were still living in Peasley Cross Lane. George was now working as a sheet glass grinder, and there were four children - John Thomas (17) was working as an apprentice glass flattener; Mary Elizabeth was 14, George junior was 11, and Martha Ellen was eight. One of the lodgers from the 1891 census, William J Crilley, was still boarding with them, and was now a locomotive engine driver.
John married Martha Marr in 1906 at Holy Trinity Church in Parr Mount, St Helens.
By April 2nd 1911, John and Martha were living in St Helens, and John was working as a sheet glass maker at Pilkington Bros.
John died in 1959 in St Helens at the age of 74. He was buried on March 6th in St Helens Cemetery. Martha died in 1964, aged 76, and was buried in the same grave on April 24th.
