Obituary

An unattributed obituary (possibly from The LaFarge Enterprise) can be found on the FindAGrave website. It is reproduced below:[1]

Rebecca Jane Waddell, daughter of James M. and Elizabeth Waddell, was born in Galla County OH, Aug. 4, 1853, and departed this life Oct. 1, 1939, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 26 days. She married Charles Henry Campbell Feb. 19, 1870. To this union were born eleven children, James Henry, Joseph Harden, Alexander, Rhoda Wirts and Cora Parr, all of La Farge. Thomas Jefferson of Willernie, Minnesota; and Lewis Donald of Valley. Four children preceded her in death; Rena Elizabeth, Elsie May, Charles Weslie and Jesse Theodore. In the same year of their marriage, they moved to Vernon County, Wis. where they faithfully toiled together making a home and raising their family. Death claimed her husband Sept. 2, 1924. She remained a few years in the old home until her failing health made it impossible for her to stay alone, and she has made her home with her daughter Cora for several years where she has been tenderly cared for. She failed rapidly in health the last few weeks. Everything was done for her that loving hands could do, but she quietly fell to sleep early Sunday morning. She was a good wife and mother, always ready to sacrifice that she might help others. She united with the Ottervale church years ago where she remained a faithful member until death. She leaves to mourn their loss her seven children; 32 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren; Two sisters and two brothers besides a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Salem Ridge M. E. Church. Services were conducted by Rev. Chester. Gudgeon, her pastor assisted by Rev. Ralph E. Parr of Fennimore U B Church. Beautiful musical selections were rendered by Mrs. Earl Norris and Mrs. Clair Norris. Interment was in the church cemetery.
