Samuel Wakefield was born about 1705 in Wells, Maine, the son of James Wakefield and Rebecca Gibbons. [1]
Samuel married Ruth Godfrey about 1736 and they removed to Kennebunk. Enlisting in 1756, Samuel was a soldier of the French and Indian war and was sent toward the Lakes and Canada. [1] [2]

Samuel is listed as the builder of the first schooner from the Lord Family Shipyard, along the Mousam River of Kennebunk, Maine in 1766.
Homer Wakefield, author of "Wakefield memorial, comprising an historical, genealogical and biographical register of the name and family of Wakefield"; Bloomington, IL, Private Printing; 1897, states James Wakefield married Rebecca Gibbons, daughter of James Gibbons and Judith Lewis Gibbons.
Robert Charles Anderson, author of The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-1633, documents Rebecca Gibbons, daughter of James Gibbons and Judith Lewis Gibbons as born in Saco 30 January 1656 and dying in Saco 3 January 1658.
My research finds James Gibbons, Jr married Dorcas Seeley, and their daughter Rebecca Gibbons married James Wakefield.
