Biography

Samuel Walter married Sarah Woodall on 6 December 1784 in Charlotte County, Virginia. [1] [2]Some researchers on reading the old handwriting have interpreted the surname of the groom as "Walker" but most documents appear to use the name Walter or Walters.

The family were living in Kentucky by 1799 when Samuel Walters was on the tax list for Jessamine County, Kentucky. Samuel Walter left a will in Jessamine County, Kentucky in 1805. His will [2] mentions a wife Sarah. [3] Among the children mentioned in Samuel Walters will is a son SAMPSON Walters. This looks like a definite link to Sarah Woodall and her father Sampson Woodall. Other children mentioned were his two oldest daughters Betsy, wife of Thomas Edwards and Polly, wife of Joel Logan. The other daughters were underage and not named. His sons named in the will were: Sampson, Samuel, John, Francis, and Luke. Executors of the will were Samuel Rice and Samuel Morrow. Witnesses: William Moore, Nancy Moore, and Mary Ward. [4]

Some of the Walters family later moved to Sullivan County, Indiana.
