Biography

Patrick Ward [1] [2] [3] was reportedly born in November 1825 in Ireland, although records provide several alternate dates. [1][2]

His parents remain unknown at this time.

Patrick married Margaret Turner.
Together they had at least 1 child:

  1. Isabelle Ward
  • One newspaper clipping refers to Patrick's granddaughter as the "niece" of Pat Ward; This "Pat Ward" could be a son of Patrick, or, equally possible, the designation "niece" could be an error.
  • Patrick's obituary refers to predeceased "children" [2], so apparently Isabelle was not his only child. However, so far, specific information has been very difficult to locate.

Patrick appeared on the census on June 1, 1860 as a head of house in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. [1]
His household included

  • Patrick Ward, age 36, day laborer, $100 personal estate, born Ireland
  • Margaret Ward, age 30, born Ireland, cannot read/write English
  • Isabell Ward, age 17, born Ireland

Patrick died on December 23, 1904 at his home in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. [2]
His obituary was published in the Alton (IL) Evening Telegraph on December 24, 1904. [2]

Patrick 's funeral was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on December 26, 1904 in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. [3] The Mass was celebrated by Rev. E. F. Spalding with Rev Fathers Fennessey and Tarrant assisting.
He was buried in St. Patrick Cemetery (AKA Greenwood Cemetery) in Godfrey, Madison County, Illinois. [3]
