John Ward was born in about 1826 in Huyton. He was christened on 24 Mar 1826 in Huyton by Roby. His father's occupation was recorded as labourer, and the family's address as Huyton.
By June 6th 1841, John senior and Elizabeth were living at Two Butts Farm, Eccleston with their son John. John senior was a gardener - perhaps a market gardener, since he lived on a farm.
By March 30th 1851, they were still in Eccleston. John senior was a labourer, as was Elizabeth; John junior was a railway engineer. They had a lodger, John Littler, who was a sawyer; he was married, but his wife wasn't in the household.
John's father died in 1860 in Prescot district, aged 66.
