Biography

Philip was born in 1749. He passed away in 1818.

Philip prepared his will on "the twenty day of the first month in the year of our Lord one thousands eight hundred and eighteen"* Probate: "Pennsylvania, U.S., Wills and Probate Records, 1683-1993"

1). He asked that 20 acres off the southeast corner and the personal estate not mentioned to be sold at auction by his Executors 2). Beloved wife Mary Ward a lot of grounds with the buildings and appurtenances, supposed be 50 acres, beginning about the orchard, also one horse, one cow, 300 wt of bacon, and all the household and kitchen furniture excepting what is left to my daughter Mary. 3). Son John Ward or his heirs or assigns a lot of grounds between his mother's lot and the lot to be sold, find his mother half of her firewood (laid at her door) and to pay $300, to receive mother's land after her death 4). Son Thomas Ward or his heirs a lot of land, 25 acres, to provide half of mother's firewood (laid at her door), to pay $544.33, to have my desk after mother dies. 5) Daughter Sarah Hayes bequeathed $133.33, she having had the rest of her share. 6). Daughter Emma Wickershand $133.33, she having had the rest of her share. 7). Daughter Mary Ward $133.33, one side saddle, one chest of drawers, one bed and beding, six chairs, to tables, and other household goods equal to her sisters. 8). Grandson Milton $40 but if he should die before he arrives at 21 his mother to have it. 9). Residue of estate equally divided between my children. 10). Sons John Ward and Thomas Ward and friend Samuel Butler sole executors.

I Philip Ward of the township of Newlin in the County of Chester and State of Pennsylvania do think fit for the disposal of my worldly affairs to make this my last will and Testament in manner following that is to say first desiring after my decease that my body may be decently buried and my just debts and funeral expenses fully Paid. I Will and direct twenty acres of my Real Estate of the South East corner and my Personal Estate except such things as are hereafter mentioned to be sold and conveyed to the best and highest bidder by my Executors herein After named. Item I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Ward a lot of Grounds with the buildings and appurtenances there unto belonging sup posed to be fifty Acres beginning about the Orchard whe the fence inter- sects Wm Harveys line thence along said fence to the road taking in the Dam and all my land on the west side of said road during her natu ral life with her choice of one hours one cow and three hundred Wt of bacon and all the house hold and Kitchen furniture excepting what is left to my Daughter Mary. Item I give an bequeath unto my son John Ward his heirs or assigns a lot of Grounds supposed to be thirty acres lying between his mothers lot and there directed to be sold subject to find his mother half of her firewood and to Fray your hundred Dollars and after his mothers Decease to have the lot left to her manner as his other lot his mothers wood to be laid at her door. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Ward his heirs or assigns a lot of gorun supposed to be twenty five Acres lying between his land and the lot directed to be sold subject to fin his mother half her firewood and to pay five hundred and thirty three dollars and thirty three cents and at his mothers Decease to have my Desk his mothers wood to be left at her door. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sara Hayes one hundred and thirty three dollars and thirty three cents she having had the rest of her house Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Emma Wickershame one hundred and thirty three dollars and thirty three cents she having had the rest of her share Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Ward one hundred and thirty three dollars and thirty cents and one side saddle one chest of drawers on bed and beding six chairs to tables and other household goods equal to her Sisters Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Milton forty dollars but if he should die before he arives at twenty one years of age in such case I desire his mother may have it. And as touching the residue and remainder of my Estate I desire it may be equal -ly divided between my children before mentioned Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my two sons John Ward and Thomas Ward and my trusty friends Samuel Butler to be Sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the twenty day of first month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen Philip Ward (seal) Signed Sealed Published Pronounced and declared by the Testator to be his last will and testament in the Presence of George Peirce Isaac Peirce Mordecar Hall Westchester May/twenty first Anno Domini 1878 Then personally appeared Isaac Peirce and Mordeean Hall whoe being Solemnly affirmed in due form of Law did Severally declare and affirm and say that they were personally present and did see (next page and here Philip Ward the Testator in the foregoing Instrument of writing named sign Seal published pronounced and declare the seven? As and for his last will and Testament and that  ? the doing thereof he was of a sound and will disposing mind and memory to the best of their knowledge and belief Affirmed Coram Jesse Sharp Regn

Be it Remembered that on the 21st day of May Anno Domini 1818 the last will and testament of Philip Ward was proved in due form of Law and letters Testamentary thereon were duly granted to John Ward Thomas Ward and Samuel Butler Executors therein named who were Solemnly Affirmed to Exhibit a true and Perfect Inventory of the deceased Estate into the Register Office ? Westchester on or before the 21st day of June Ninty and to settle the account of their Administration in one year from this time of when therunto legally required given under my hand and the seal of said office Josee Sharpe Regr.
