John was a pioneer in the Latter Day Saint Church[1]
John was born in 1815 supposedly in Cheddleton a parish and villiage in Staffordshire, England; son of Ralph Wardle and Ann Allen.[2] He was a shoe maker.[3] There was a Wardle family at Stone in Staffordshire prior to this date. It is not known if there is any connection.
John married Harriet Ball on 4th September 1834 at St. Edward's church in Leek a market town in Staffordshire, England. The marriage register confirms both John and Harriet were from Leek at the time of their marriage.[4] They were married by Thomas Heathcote. John and Harriet both signed their own names in the marriage register. James Clulowe and George Rider were the witnesses.
