When WW1 broke out, John, who was a clerk living at 39 Nicholson Street, Ballarat, [2] joined the 1st Signal Company, Australian Imperial Force. He was posted to London to the Australian Post Office there. [3] Whilst in London, he met another clerk by the name of Emily Moore. Emily died 18 Jul 1953 in Canterbury [6] and John remained at the address for a few more years.
It was likely about the time he retired, that he remarried, to a widow called Beatrice Maud Benjamin. This was sometime before 1958 by which time, they were living at 8 Neptune Street, Sandringham [2] where they remained for 5 years ore more. By 1967 they had moved to Bolton Street, Beaumaris and it was in Beaumaris that John died on 20 Jun 1985. [7][8]
