William Waterworth was christened on 18 Nov 1827 at St Helens Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of John and Nancy (or Ann) Waterworth. His father's occupation was recorded as labourer, and the family's address as Hardshaw.

By June 6th 1841, William's parents were living in Tontine Street, Windle with their three children William, Ann and Margaret.

William married Hannah Flinn on 29 Apr 1849 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Both were living in Eccleston, and neither had been married before. William was 21 and was a tailor; Hannah was 26. Their fathers were named as John Waterworth (brewer) and William Flinn (sailor). The witnesses were William Lomax and Charles Ashurst.

Their son Charles was born in about 1857 in St Helens, Lancashire.

By April 3rd 1881, they were living in Havelock Street, Eccleston. William was a tailor.

William's cousin Ann Charlson died on 8 Mar 1891 in Salt Lake City, Utah; he was one of three cousins she left $200 in her will, the other two being his sisters Margaret Holt and Martha Pickavance.
