Biography
GORDO – Anna Lou Free, 81, 4970 County Road 57, died April 5, 2001, at Salem Nursing Home. Services will be at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel today at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James F. Posey officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove "Bump" Cemetery. Visitation is today from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is directing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Fannie Stein Watkins; husband, Daniel Hobson Free; son, Gilbert Free; daughter-in-law, Louise Free and two infant daughters.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Shirley (Howard) of Gordo, Ala.; sisters, Gladys Free of Northport, and Elma Kelley of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Tim and Denise Shirley, Kerry and Lynn Shirley, all of Gordo and Kim and David Getzinger of Houma, La.; great grandchildren, Drew, Jordan, Brent (Brandi), Barett and Brook Shirley all of Gordo, Justin and Lindsey Getzinger of Houma, La., step-great grandchildren, Kayla and Kody Adrian of Gordo; special neighbors, Kannie Mae and Wayman Woolbright and Lewis and Laverne Lowe.
Mrs. Free was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her and she was lovingly known to all as "Granny." She was a retired dietician for Pickens County Medical Center where cooking was the love of her life.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors of Hargrove and New Hope Communities, staff of Salem Nursing Home and Pickens County Medical Center.
