Biography

Born Ann was born about 1797, the daughter of John Watkins and his wife Ann (maiden name unknown). She was baptised ^[1] on 18 June 1797 at West Ham, All Saints, Essex, England; her parents are named on the register.

Marriage On 16 June 1817 she married John Barber at St Dunstans and All Saints Stepney ^[2] in the presence of James Spyers and William Nairn.

Their only known children were:

• John born 1818,
• Ann, born 1820,
• James, born 1825 and
• Maria, born 1833

In 1841 ^[3] the family was living at High Street Stratford except for Ann (daughter) who was staying with (or looking after) the 80 year old Ann Watkins in Surinam Terrace Stratford.
In 1851 ^{[4] [5]} Ann and John were living together with son John, the widowed daughter Ann and the schoolgirl daughter Maria at the confectionery business in Broadway Stratford.
In 1861 ^[6] Ann and John were living together with daughter Ann and grandson John Stanton Barber.
In 1871 ^{[7] [8]} Ann, widow, was living at 6 Manby Terrace Stratford together with daughter Ann, granddaughter Maria and grandson Cuthbert, both scholars.

Died Ann died ^[9] age 83 on 6 November 1880 and was buried on 13 November 1880 at St John's Stratford ^[10].
