Research Notes

Re: Weekly Challenge 04 Jun 2018, location corrections (errors 603/633, USA used too early). The data in this profile before it was altered was the following:

  • birth, 1663-00-00 Salisbury, Essex, Massachusetts, United States, corrected to Old Town, Norfolk, Massachusetts Bay
  • death, 1710-04-25 Salisbury, Essex, Massachusetts, United States, corrected to Amesbury, Essex, Province of Massachusetts Bay

Regarding the birth/death places, note that Salisbury changed its name several times over the decades. In Jan 1654, it changed from Salisbury to Old Town, and did not change again until Jun 1666, when it became New Salisbury. When the birth occurred, in 1663, it was known as Old Town, Norfolk, Massachusetts Bay. It did not move to Essex County until 1680. When the death occurred, in 1710, it was known as Amesbury, and had moved to Essex County previously, i.e., the name was Amesbury, Essex, Province of Massachusetts Bay.
