Biography

Alice Ann Watts was born on 19 May 1862 in Jamberoo, New South Wales, Australia ^[1], the daughter of Daniel Watts and Caroline Hall and the sister of Alice Ann Watts, Edward Daniel Watts, Daniel James Watts, Elizabeth Jane Watts, Matilda Watts, Martha Watts, Mary Watts, Willie Watts, Wesley Watts, Annie Elizabeth Watts and John Watts.

She married John Shepherd on 24 April 1884 at Berry, New South Wales, Australia ^[2] and their children were Alice Matilda (Shepherd) Puckeridge, Melinda Jane (Shepherd) Talley, Robert Harold Shepherd, Leslie Shepherd, John Lindsay Shepherd and Maud Evelyn Shepherd.

It is not known if there was a divorce between Alice and John Shepherd, but she either married or was in a relationship with Charles Edward Judson from as early as 1893 according to the Obituary of Charles ^[3] at Nowra, New South Wales, Australia. Although the Obituary says that he was married, 50 years prior to his death, to "Miss Alice Ann Watts", no Marriage Registration has yet been found.

Alice and Charles had at least three children, Ernest Edward (Shephard) Judson, Lucy Elizabeth (Shephard/Judson) Newton and Victor Charles Judson, but, strangely, these three children were registered as "Shephard" with the parents named as John and Alice.

It is unclear if her daughter, Maud Evelyn Shepherd, who was registered as born on 31 March 1895 to Alice and John Shepherd in 1895, was John's daughter or actually Charles Judson's child as when Maud married she did so as Maud Evelyn "Judson" ^[4] and Charles was named as her father on her Death registration.

Alice died on 20 March 1927 in the Berry Hospital, Berry, New South Wales, Australia ^[5][6][7] and she was buried in the Church of England section of Nowra Cemetery, Nowra, New South Wales, Australia ^[8].
