Mary (Wayte) Leonard was born in Staffordshire, England.

Mary was born circa 1794 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.[1][2][3][4] She was baptised on Sunday 26 January 1794 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.[5] She and James Leonard moved to Rugeley, Staffordshire. This was a journey of 17 and a half miles.

Mary Wayte married James Leonard, son of Thomas Leonard and Elizabeth Baxter, in St. Modwen's on Tuesday 14 February 1815 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.[6][7]

Mary and James Leonard became the parents of Mary Leonard circa 1816 in Rugeley, Staffordshire.[8][9] Rugeley in the early 1800's was a small market town in the Hundred of Cuttlestone East. The town "has a remarkably neat, cleanly apperance; the houses are well built". The main item manufactured here were hats and sheet iron. The population was 2,677 in 1821.

She presumably lived with her spouse James in Rugeley, Staffordshire, in May 1822.[10] She presumably lived with her spouse James in Rugeley, Staffordshire, in March 1827. The house, which the Leonard's needed to vacate, was described as a "commodious dwelling-house, situated near the Market PLace, with a good shop to the front" and came with a good pew in the church.[11] Mary and James lived in October 1827 in Rugeley, Staffordshire.[12]

Mary and James Leonard became the parents of Ruth Anna Leonard circa 1832 in Rugeley, Staffordshire.[13][14]

Mary Wayte was recorded as living with James Leonard in the 1841 census at Hulme, Manchester, and other records indicate this was her spouse. The 1841 census only recorded adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years; her approximate age was recorded as 45 years old. Also living in the house were five of their children and three other young children. Their 15 year old son lived three doors down at number 7 with another 15 year old boy.[15] She presumably lived with her spouse James in Greenheys, Manchester, in July 1848.[16]

She presumably lived with her spouse James in Greenheys, Manchester, in November 1857.[17]

She was recorded as living with her daughter, a servant and a gardener in the 1861 census at Hatherlow, Stockport, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 64 years old.[18]

They was recorded as living with her daughter and her husband, her three grand-daughters, a governess and 2 servants in the 1871 census at Romiley, Cheshire. They was recorded as being 77 years old.[19] Werneth House was reportedly built in 1863, and is still standing. It is a two storey stone freestanding house in Guywood Lane, and was perhaps the house that the Leonards were living in 1871 through 1881. The rooms are large and the ceilings are high; it is evidently an imposing place.

She was recorded as living with her daughter and her daughter's husband, her three granddaughters and two servants in the 1881 census at Romiley, Cheshire. She was recorded as being 87 years old.[20]

Mary died on 5 October 1885 in Romiley, Cheshire, She died of 'senectus' or old-age.[21]
