Dorothea E. Wehlitz (name americanized to Doretha) was born as German on 31 January 1818 in Langestück, Kreis Soldin, Neumark, Provinz Brandenburg, Preußen (Prussia, Germany) nowadays Poland.

She married Christian Dee. They had eight known children.

Their children were:

1. August Karl Gustave Dee (21 December 1840 – 19 June 1921)
2. Wilhelmina (Dee) Worm (14 August 1845 – 28 June 1929)
3. Christian Theodore Dee (13 February 1849 – 7 February 1933)
4. Gustave William Dee (27 March 1852 – 19 February 1938)
5. Julianna (Dee) Kuehn (26 March 1856 – 2 March 1939)
6. Karl Friedrich Hermann Dee (28 October 1858 – 6 October 1937)

After the dead of Christian, she emigrated with her youngest daughter Julianna and son Theodore, his wife and small daughter on board the ship "Wieland" from Hamburg, Germany via Le Havre, France to New York, USA. They arrived in New York on 16 April 1878, then they moved to Iowa.

Daughter Maria had emigrated before and was already in Iowa.

Dorothea passed away, aged 83, in Lansing, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA on 1 April 1901.
