George Wehrlin, Christine Wehrlin/ Barbara Bender's biological father, has been found. In Alta Mesa Memorial Park; Palo Alto, Santa Clara, California, USA. In Mausoleum #1: https://images.findagrave.com/photos/2019/68/161278989_9b27deb0-b699-4d8a-a81a-82e109c8ef45.jpeg (see picture). George Wehrlin (1856-1945), 88-89 years old, who abandoned his family in Buffalo, NY in 1883, leaving 5 children under the age of 12 orphaned. His wife: Mary (Kohn) Wehrlin, has not been located to date. An application for a passport in 1922 and a trip to France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and Switzerland in 1923 are public records with his passport picture on it. His son, George had to make brooms to stay alive, work in a grocery store, do undertaking, just going through life with a 4th grade education. His daughter, Florence, was institutionalized because of sexual molestation by the family that took her in; she died in the institution. His daughter Jesse, was taken in by a family as domestic help and she never received an education, later married 2x in life. His daughter, Maggy, was taken in as domestic help also by neighbors. But his daughter Barbara, was the lucky one to be adopted by John and Barbara Mensch. Barbara received an education and went to college, even having her own horse and buggy along with nice clothes to wear. She married Joseph Bender and they had 7 children, none of them named George. I am ashamed to be a blood relative of George Wehrlin; and he does not deserve the title of Great Grandfather. I will still continue to search for Mary (Kohn) Wehrlin, my Great Grandmother.
