Marriage and Children

In Mushenheim, on January 18, 1835, Johann Georg married Maria Elisabeta Ohly (1811-1844). [3][4]

Four children were born to this marriage:

  2. Anna Margaretha (11 Nov 1837 Muschenheim - 15 Apr 1838)
  3. Johann Jacob (6/23/1839 Gambach - April 17, 1917)
  4. Johann Georg (3/23/1842 Gambach - 3/21/1843)

In Gambach, Hessen, on July 12, 1846, Johann Georg married Katherine Elisabeth Grieb (1817-1891). [3] [5]

Three children of this marriage were born in Gambach:
  1. Tobias (April 25, 1847 - May 7, 1923 ) -- went by William in the US
  2. Heinrich Georg (March 9, 1850 - October 24, 1877)
  3. Conrad J. (October 10, 1852 - January 17, 1937)
  4. and Eliza (10 May, 1856 - 8 Jul 1927) was born in Portage Co. Wisconsin

Timeline

In February 1854 Johann Georg emigrated from Gambach, Landkreis Wetteraukreis, Hessen, Germany with his wife and children.[6]

On June 23, 1854 Johann Georg arrived to the port of New York City, New York on the ship O. Thyen with his family .[7]

In 1860 Johann George Weisel was a farmer in Manchester Township, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. This township/area was referred to as the "German Settlement" and his brother, Conrad Weisel, had a farm nearby. [8]

In 1867 the Inglehart Church was built. The early pioneer settlers including Johann Georg, his wife and children, initially worshiped in a log cabin. Johann Georg's son William was the second marriage performed in the new church.

In 1870 Johann Georg and family were farming in Kingston Township, Green Lake County, Wisconsin. [9]

In 1880 Johann Georg was resident in Kingston Township, Green Lake County, Wisconsin.[10]

Death

Johann Georg passed away on December 9, 1893 in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota in the household of his oldest son Jacob Weisel. [11]

John Geo. Weisel, an old and esteemed German resident of this community, died in Minneapolis Saturday, the 16th inst, at the ripe age of 88 years. The body was brought here Tuesday accompanied by his two sons. Funeral services were held in this village, and the remains were then taken to the German settlement for burial.

Burial

Johann Georg Weisel and his wife Katharina Elisabetha Grieb are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cambria, Columbia County, Wisconsin. In the foreground of the Inglehart Church lie the graves of Johann Georg, his nephew Konrad Weisel and Konrad's young son.[12]
