I adopted this profile and have neglected to do my due diligence in researching the information listed here. It has been brought to my attention that James may not be the son of John Young Welch as it is believed that Young was never in Alabama to have a son born there in 1819. Young was in Amite Co., Ms. from 1810 to 1820. He was in Marion Co., Ms. in 1830 and Simpson co., Ms. thereafter. He did have a son that is unaccounted for born about 1818.
Another researcher has pointed out that it may be more likely that he was a son of John Welch born about 1794, who married Frances Arnold on Feb. 12, 1815 Clarke Co., Al. John was probably a son of James Welch and Clarissa Morrell. [Thank you Christine!]
More research is certainly needed for this profile. The first glaring inconsistency is that the find-a-grave profile attached lists his wife as Martha Ann Wester instead of Willis.
Available census reports indicate he was born in Alabama between 1817-1825 and two also list that his parents were born in Alabama as well (see below):
