Biography

Martha was born in 1810, the daughter of Elijah Wells and Elizabeth Ragsdale. She was named in her father’s 1843 will by her married name. Martha married Henry Yocum in Aug 1829 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. (Her sister, Lucinda Wells, married Henry’s brother, Hardin Yocum, in 1833.) Martha and Henry had twelve known children.

In 1889, she filed for a widow’s pension based on her husband’s service in Co D 11th Kentucky Cavalry. She died in 1892 and is buried at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Mercer County, Kentucky.
