John Henry William Westfallen was born in 1842 in St George in the East, London, England, ^[1] the son of William Henry Westfallen and Mary Morse. ^{[2] [3]}

He was baptised on 29 April 1842 in St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, London. ^[2]

John married Ann Elizabeth Wilson on 9 June 1868 in the church of St James the Great, Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets. He was a blacksmith. ^[4]

In 1891 John was living with his wife and 4 children in Poplar, Tower Hamlets. He was a general labourer. ^[1]
